Why Breath ...

Breath
Breathwork at Threshold is the entry point—purposeful breathing trains your nervous system, restores balance, awakens clarity, and opens the door to a new way of living.

Breath is the foundation of every session at Threshold.

Through a guided return to natural, intentional breathing, you will find a source already within you to adapt and even control your nervous system rather than your nervous system controlling you.  No longer will your body’s autonomic function hold you in unwanted tension.  Instead, you will develop the tools for calm in the face of chaos, clarity & alertness for when the body leans low.

Guided Breathwork

This is the core of it all at Threshold. Our breath. We have been designed to function optimally when breathing the right way. The problem is most of us don't know how to do it. Through guided breathwork, intentionally desinged with your needs in mind, we help return you to the innate breathing which brings balanced and fully functional nervous & immune systems. No other practice brings more & quicker relief than proper breathing. And quite possibly nothing else has a greater influence on how long you live.

Practice Your Breath

Take the skills and exercises you learn at Threshold into every day. Start in the morning. Return when midday brings unexpected challenges. Rest at day's end after all you have accomplished. Life does not allow us to breathe our best at every moment, so carve out the time to practice before the moment you really need it arrives.

Learn from Your Breath

Notice within seconds how much better you feel while breathing diaphragmatically. Like a spa service within you. Feel the calm and relief swell as you choose the breath which initiates your parasympathetic response to safety. Recognize how much clearer you handle pressure, how much easier it is to make the right decision, and how others will turn to you in the heat of the battle. The way you breathe intentionally when quiet and alone, will be the way you breathe in chaos.

Deep, diaphragmatic breathing stimulates the vagus nerve, lowers excessive cortisol levels, and shifts the body from a sympathetic, fight-or-flight state into a parasympathetic one by communicating safety.  At Threshold we teach evidence-based breathing techniques to strengthen heart rate variability, improve oxygen efficiency, and settle the mind back into an optimal place of balance.

Prepare Your Space
The most effective breathing practice begins with making time for it. The day will simply run off without you. Before you breathe is almost as important as the breath itself.
Focus Only on Your Breath
As you engage your practice, maintain focus on the air entering & exiting your body. Nothing else. Keep your postures correct (deep, diaphragmatic breaths), and let all other thoughts pass by. This daily practice enhances everything around you.
Notice How You Feel
Your mind, body, and soul are regulating, working in perfect tandem with each other. Compare this to how you feel when stress or dysregulation reigns instead. Reinforce that this is where you want to be.
Return to Your Surroundings
Look around you. You have set yourself up to best handle whatever the day will bring. Now is the time to walk into your life fully confident what's inside you is enough.

Breath is the threshold to transformation, who we are when operating against ourselves and who we are when thriving.  It invites us to explore our personal boundaries with awareness rather than bouncing unknowingly against them.  By learning to breathe through our discomfort, we expand our capacity to grow and create calm under pressure.  This practice isn’t about pushing extremes for the sake of pushing extremes; we walk you gently near your discomfort to develop confidence & healthier responses.  Of course, if you enjoy exploring the extremes, we’ve got that for you too!

Regular practicers of breathwork report reduced stress, improved focus, deeper sleep, and an expanded sense of capability.  Consistent breathwork can increase heart rate variability, lower resting heart rate, and empower us to cross the perceived thresholds standing in our way.
